Australia’s exit from the World Cup
After losing to Zimbabwe, Australia was in a difficult situation after losing to Sri Lanka yesterday.
Today’s Zimbabwe-Ireland match was washed out in the group stage due to rain. On the other hand, Zimbabwe secured a ticket to the Super Eights by getting one point from this match.
Zimbabwe was supposed to face Ireland in the final match of the group stage in Pallekele, Sri Lanka on Tuesday. However, it started raining even before the match. Although the rain stopped several times, it rained again before the field could be repaired. In the end, the toss could not even be held.
After waiting for almost three hours, the match officials declared the match abandoned. As a result, according to the tournament rules, both teams got one point each. Zimbabwe confirmed the Super Eights with a total of 5 points. Although they still have one match in hand.
Sri Lanka has advanced to the Super Eight along with Zimbabwe from Group B. They have won all three matches they have played. As a result, they are assured of a Super Eight berth with 6 points even though they have one match in hand.
Ireland is in third place in the group with 3 points from four matches, one win and two losses. They are the only team in the group to have played all their matches. Australia has won 2 matches against 1 win. They are in fourth place with 2 points. Oman has not yet won after playing 3 matches.
