India’s miserable defeat to South Africa
India played a disappointing match in their first match of the T20 World Cup Super Eight. Chasing a target of 188 runs against South Africa at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India lost by a huge margin of 76 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss on Sunday, South Africa scored 187 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Chasing the target, Team India started losing wickets from the beginning of the innings. India lost the wickets of 3 top-order batsmen for just 26 runs.
India’s wicket-fall continued till the 19th over of the innings. After 15 overs, India’s total was only 88 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Despite the team’s dire situation, Shubham Dubey continued to bat towards the end to show his surprise. But even though his innings of 42 runs reduced the team’s loss margin, defeat could not be avoided. India was eventually bowled out for 111 runs in 18.5 overs.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India on Sunday.
South Africa found themselves in trouble after winning the toss and electing to bat first. The Proteas were cornered after losing the wickets of three top-order batsmen for just 20 runs in the first 4 overs of the innings.
Dewald Brevis and David Miller, known as the Miller Killer, took control of the team’s difficult defeat. They put on a 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket in 51 balls. After breaking this partnership, South Africa again faced a batting disaster.
Brevis returned to score 45 runs off 29 balls with three fours and three sixes. Miller returned to score a team-high 63 runs off 35 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
However, Tristan Stubbs came to the fore towards the end of the innings. He scored an unbeaten 44 runs off 24 balls with one four and three sixes.
South Africa scored 187 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs under the responsibility of David Miller, Dewald Brevis, and Tristan Stubbs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Another pacer, Arshdeep Singh, took 2 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs.
Incidentally, the first match of the Super Eight between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 21 was washed out due to rain. Today, February 22, in the second Super Match, England defeated Sri Lanka by 95 runs at their home ground and won by 51 runs.
