India to visit Bangladesh in September
The Bangladesh cricket team was scheduled to visit Ireland in September this year. But instead of visiting Ireland, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to host a series against India at home. A BCB official confirmed this information to Cricbuzz.
India to visit Bangladesh in September
The BCB wants to organize the India series, which was originally postponed in 2015, in the August-September window this year. According to the schedule, the Indian team is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on August 28 to play three ODIs and three T20Is.
According to the BCB press release, the ODI matches will be held on September 1, 3 and 6. Then the T20 series will be held on September 9, 12 and 13. Due to this new schedule of the India series, the BCB requested the Ireland Cricket Board to postpone the tour. However, as Ireland could not find a new date by 2026, the tour has been postponed for now.
A BCB official told Cricbuzz, “We had requested Ireland to host the series at some other time, but due to their busy schedule, it is not possible. Hopefully, a new time can be found for this tour in 2027.”
Bangladesh is currently ranked ninth in the ICC ODI rankings with 79 rating points. Phil Simmons’ men have moved one step ahead of the West Indies after beating Pakistan 2-1 at home.
Bangladesh will have to be in the top eight of the rankings by March 31, 2027, to directly participate in the 2027 World Cup. With the Ireland tour postponed, Bangladesh now has to rely more on the New Zealand, Australia and India series at home for direct qualification. Apart from this, the tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe are also very important for the Tigers.
Although the schedule of the India series in September has been finalized, due to the recent diplomatic situation, the green light has yet to be received from the Indian government. If the tour of India is also postponed for some reason, Bangladesh could face a major crisis in its fight to get a direct ticket to the ODI World Cup, as the opportunity to play enough ODI matches before the scheduled time will be reduced.
