Today, January 23, Rajshahi became the champion again at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The team, which changed its name to Rajshahi Warriors this season, defeated Chittagong Royals in the final today. The team led by Nazmul Hossain Shanto celebrated their second title win by defeating them by 63 runs.
Batting first in the final of the 12th edition of the BPL at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday, Rajshahi scored 174 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, riding on Tanjid Hasan Tamim’s record-breaking century.
Chasing the target, Chittagong, who had been losing wickets since the beginning of the innings; In the end, they were all out for 111 runs in 17.5 overs. Pakistani opener Miraz Baig, who played for Chittagong, scored the highest 39 runs for the team.
Another Pakistani, Asif Ali, scored the second highest 21 runs. In an important match like the final, 7 batsmen from Chittagong could not score double-digit runs. Due to this, Chittagong lost the title fight despite reaching the final for the third time in the BPL.
For Rajshahi, Sri Lankan star pacer Binu Fernando took 4 wickets for just 9 runs in 3 overs. Hasan Murad took 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. James Neesham took 2 wickets.
Rajshahi got off to a flying start after losing the toss and opting to bat in the BPL final on Friday. The opening pair, Shahibzada Farhan and Tanjid Hasan Tamim, built a partnership of 83 runs in 10.2 balls. Pakistani opener Shahibzada Farhan returned to the dressing room after making 30 runs in 30 balls with two fours and a six.
Bangladesh’s star opener Tanjid Hasan Tamim took the team ahead from the start. He scored a fifty off 29 balls with the help of 6 sixes. Tanjid completed his century in the BPL final with a fifty off the next 31 balls, setting a record for a century in the BPL final. However, this was his third century in the BPL.
After scoring a century from 61 balls, Tanjid could not extend his innings. The opener returned to the dressing room as the third batsman for the team with 163 runs in 18.5 overs. After that, Rajshahi lost the wicket of captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto to collect 11 runs off the last 7 balls.
Tanjid scored 100 runs for Rajshahi. Shahibzada Farhan scored 30 runs. Kane Williams scored 24 runs off 15 balls. Nazmul Hossain Shanto returned to bat at the end of the innings by making 11 runs off 7 balls.
Shariful Islam and Mukidul Islam took two wickets each for Chittagong.
