Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short also have a chance to play a role in Australia’s spin department as ‘part-time’ spinners.

Test captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David, who are on their way back from injury, have also been included in the World Cup squad. Cummins played only in the Adelaide Test in the current Ashes. Hazlewood could not play due to injury. He has been ruled out of the Ashes. David’s Big Bash season has also ended early due to a hamstring injury.
Star pacer Cummins, who has been suffering from a back injury for a long time, will undergo another scan later this month. Then it will be confirmed whether he will be able to play in the T20 World Cup starting from February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
Australia will start their T20 World Cup campaign by facing Ireland in Colombo on February 11. All of Australia’s matches in the group stage will be held in Sri Lanka. In the men’s international T20s there, spinners have taken 43.5 percent of the wickets. On average, spinners concede 1.25 runs less per over than pacers on Sri Lankan wickets.
Having failed to reach the semi-finals in the last two editions, Australia has increased its strength in spin this time. However, the two left-arm spinners, Kuneman and Connolly, have taken only 1 wicket in 10 international T20s. Connolly has taken 1 wicket in 6 matches. Kuneman is still wicketless after playing 4 matches.
Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Javier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuneman, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa.
Australia will play a series against Pakistan in this edition before the T20 World Cup. A separate squad will be announced for that. Australia’s opponents in Group ‘B’ in the T20 World Cup are Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
