Mustafizur in Wisden’s best T20 XI

In recognition of Mustafizur Rahman’s excellent performance in the national team and franchise T20 league last year, the Wisden cricket website has included him in the best T20 XI for boys of the year.

The number of international matches in this edition increased towards the end of last year with the 2026 T20 World Cup in mind. And various T20 franchise leagues have been held throughout the year. The Wisden website has informed that this XI has been formed by judging the performance of all types of T20 matches.

Regarding Mustafizur’s performance last year, the website wrote that among the bowlers who have bowled at least 150 overs, no one could come close to Mustafizur’s bowling average (18.03) in 2025. No pacer was as economical as him this year, and only Holder was better than him in strike rate. He has kept the runs in check throughout the year and has taken wickets regularly.

Mustafizur Rahman took 59 wickets in 43 innings in the recognised T20Is last year. He has given away 6.78 runs per over. Strike rate 15.9. His best bowling figures are 3 wickets for 11 runs. Mustafizur Rahman bowled 156.5 overs in this edition last year. Caribbean pace all-rounder Jason Holder took the highest number of wickets, 97, in 250.2 overs last year. His strike rate is 15.4 but his average is 21.42.

This team of the year has been made with two specialist spinners, pacers and pace all-rounders. India’s Varun Chakraborty is joined by Sunil Narine in the spin department. New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy is joined by Mustafizur Rahman in the pace attack, and Sam Curran and Holder are the pace bowling all-rounders.

India’s Abhishek Sharma and England’s Phil Salt open the innings. Abhishek scored 3 centuries in all recognized T20Is last year. The strike rate is eye-popping—202.01! He scored a total of 1602 runs in 40 innings at an average of 41.07 and took 10 wickets. The Wisden website wrote about this explosive left-handed batsman, Abhishek is the first cricketer to score a thousand runs in a calendar year by scoring two runs per ball.

Salt scored 1575 runs in 52 innings at a strike rate of 153.35. Salt batted at a strike rate of 176 for England and the IPL last year. He is also the team’s wicketkeeper.

South Africa’s Devald Brevis, Donovan Ferreira and Australia’s Tim David are also in this team of the year. Ferreira is considered one of the best in hitting boundaries in the middle overs by the Wisden editorial team. Last year, this middle-order batsman hit a six every 6.6 balls and a four every 3.9 balls.

Brevis batted at a strike rate of over 180 in three franchise T20 leagues (IPL, SAT20 and Hundred) last year. He batted at a strike rate of over 170 from positions 3 to 7 in the batting order.
