Centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head helped Australia take a 134-run lead in the fifth Ashes Test, scoring 518 runs in reply to England’s 384.

Travis Head was dismissed for 163 with 24 fours and a six. Smith remained unbeaten on 129 off 205 balls with 15 fours and a six. Smith is second with 13 Ashes centuries. Don Bradman is at the top with 19 centuries in 37 Ashes Tests.

Australia started the Sydney Test on Tuesday at 166 for 2. Head was unbeaten on 91 and Michael Nasser was unbeaten on 1. Head batted in a familiar manner and completed his century. Curtis got Nasser (24) out for the first time.

Then Jacob Bethell returned to Head. Usman Khawaja could not score more than 17 runs in the last Test of his life. He was also returned by Curs. Alex Carey returned for 16 runs, Cameron Green scored 37 runs. Smith was joined by Beau Webster (42) at the wicket. The two built an unbroken partnership of 81 runs for the eighth wicket.
